  • * Use coconut/almond oil on baby’s bottom to help clean them when they’re dirty. The oil will make your baby’s bottom just moisturized enough that the poop will wipe right off.
  • * Those little shoulder flaps in onesies aren’t just a fancy design, they’re actually there so that the head opening can become large enough to slip down your baby’s body in the case of a poopsplosion!
  • *If you have a little boy, give him a wipe just below his bellybutton before you take off his nappy to help avoid being his target practice! Also undoing his nappy then putting it back over him for a few seconds can help. Fresh air seems to encourage the pee to spout just at the wrong time!

  • *If your baby has gas that just won’t come out and is irritating them, one way to relieve it is by laying them on their back and rotating their squishy little legs in a bicycle-pedaling motion.
  • * Let them sleep! I know it can be tempting to keep them awake so you can hang out with them, they’re so cute, right? But it can cause you more harm than good. You may think that baby might sleep better at night if they’re awake more during the day, but an over tired baby can be all kinds of grumpy. 90 mins of awake time is usually enough between snoozes.
  • *Swaddling can really help your baby to sleep but not many people can do it tight enough so that baby doesn’t escape. Instead you can invest in a velcro sleeper. You don’t have to do any complicated folds and you won’t stay up all night worrying about your baby coming undone or getting chilly.

  • * Sleep when your baby sleeps. I know you think you have a mountain of stuff to do, but if you’re able to, then grab 40 winks when you can. You’ll be sleep deprived enough during the first few months so take advantage of baby’s snooze times.
  • * Try wearing your baby. Often babies will sleep really well when they are being worn, plus it leaves you hands free to get stuff done. It’s especially helpful if you’re heading to busy shops where it can be tricky to manoeuvre a cumbersome buggy.
  • .

  • * Use a mesh laundry bag to keep track of all those tiny baby socks. Put it straight into the washing machine and never lose a sock again.
  • * Babies hate silence. If you sleep train your babe in a quiet room, chances are they’ll be a lighter sleeper, affected by any and every noise. Use a white noise device to help them sleep better.

  • * Keep a spare top in your nappy bag, there’s as much chance of you needing a change when you’re out and about as your baby!
  • * Freeze dummies in an ice tray filled with water or breastmilk to help soothe sore gums when teething starts.
  • *For the best stain remover ever, mix one part dishwashing detergent with two parts hydrogen peroxide. Keep a ready made supply in your cupboard. It removes poop stains from clothes and puke stains from carpets. Also, juice and pee stains. The possibilities are endless. Go forth and clean!

  • *Freeze berries or applesauce in an ice cube tray and use them to cool down hot foods like oatmeal. It’ll save you blowing on it for ages while baby has a meltdown thinking you’re starving them.
  • * Running out of closet space with all of those new baby clothes? Loop a soda can tab on one hanger and then hook another hanger through it to double your space instantly.
